South Korea and NATO form defense industry consulting group
South Korea and NATO agreed to set up a defense industry advisory group to explore how the two can improve their defense cooperation.
The agreement was reached at a meeting between NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and South Korean national security adviser Wi Sung-lac.
Yonhap quoted the president’s office as saying: “The two sides agreed to establish a new chairman-level South Korea’s NATO defense industry advisory body, discussing specific measures to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Defense. ”
The two sides also agreed to promote cooperation in the defense industry through South Korea’s participation in future NATO projects aimed at enhancing the national defense capabilities of the Transatlantic Alliance. It does not specify what it might be.
Wisconsin attended a separate meeting on Wednesday with representatives from Rutte and three other Indo-Pacific partners – Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
They agreed to continue their advanced supply chain cooperation and close cooperation in defense development, production and procurement. NATO and its Indo-Pacific partners also agreed to work together in space, maritime and ammunition.
