Sold out at most retailers including GameStop, Walmart, Target, Best Buy and more
After (feeling) delays, Nintendo Switch 2 reservations are open in the United States and Canada. Nintendo opened reservations in both regions on April 24 after the booking date (and then withdrawn) due to tariffs. The official release date for June 5 remains the same, but if you sign up on Nintendo’s website in advance, you should receive an email that will allow you to access your orders through Nintendo.
If you don’t receive an email and instead sign up for your interests at Nintendo, you’re not alone. The company updated its booking page, saying some people may not receive a booking email until after the June 5 release date.
The third-party retailer also has 2 reservations. Stores like GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy, Target are selling $450 consoles and $500 Mario Kart World Bundle. But as of now, consoles and bundles have been sold out or cannot be sold out at most retailers.
How to book a Nintendo Switch 2
Along with Nintendo, third-party retailers like Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart and Target opened bookings as planned on April 24. Best Buy, Walmart and Target bookings open at midnight, while GameStop in-person and online bookings start at 11 a.m. As of now, all of these retailers have sold out their stocks or listed the console as “coming soon.” We also want the Switch 2 to be available from Amazon, but the link is not available on the website yet.
At this point, if you haven’t already, it is recommended that you register through the Nintendo website. It can be registered for free, even if you have to wait until after the launch date of June 5, you will eventually receive an email, even if you have to wait. Over time, we will continue to update this post with the latest Switch 2 reservation information.

More Switch 2 details
We know from the Switch 2 trailer that Nintendo’s new hardware will be bigger and there will be a new way to detachable Joy-Cons. The new Joy-Con 2 has a new C button, mouse controls and a built-in gyroscope for tilt control. The console has a built-in microphone that supports a new feature called Game Chat that allows you to communicate with friends in the game. The device is indeed bigger, with a 7.9-inch LCD screen that supports 120Hz refresh rate, HDR and 1080p resolution.
When docked, you will be able to play up to 4K on your TV, and Nintendo says it also improves the console’s internal speakers. The new dock also features a built-in fan that keeps the console cool and helps maintain performance during long-term playback. Switch 2 has a rechargeable dual USB-C port, with base storage increased to 256GB. The Switch 2’s storage space can be expanded like previous models, but it can only work with newer MicroSD Express cards.
Tariffs and Nintendo Switch 2
In its latest direct talk in early April, Nintendo showed off more Switch 2 than ever before. In addition to the initial $450 price, this includes the unveiling of the April 9 booking opening date. Soon after, President Trump announced tariffs on China and other countries, prompting Nintendo to postpone reservations in the United States and Canada.
In a reversal, President Trump then announced a 90-day pause on the steep “countdown” tariffs affecting 75 countries, but also announced that tariffs imposed on China will rise further (currently, the country can reach up to 245%).
We now know that the initial $450 price of the Switch 2 will remain the same in the U.S. and Canada, but according to its official statement, Nintendo appears to be opening the door for potential future price increases.
We also know that Nintendo began moving some of its switch console manufacturing industries to Vietnam in 2019. Vietnam will have a reciprocal tariff of 46%, but now it appears that the 10% reciprocal tariff has been suspended, now effective for a 90-day pause.
It is speculated that Nintendo will enhance production of the Switch 2 console in Vietnam, so it can be followed on time even if it sells the console at a loss in the short term. It seems the company will have to seriously increase production to keep up with the demand for the Switch 2: According to Nintendo, in Japan alone, 2.2 million people entered the pre-booked lottery, which far exceeded the expected equipment in the region on launch day.
