Spylend spreads as a reliable financial management tool in Google Play Store BleepingComputer. It attracts financially vulnerable individuals by providing quick loans with minimal documentation.
Despite red flags about harassment and ransomware in user comments, the app rose from 50,000 to 100,000 downloads in a week.
After downloading, the app requires too much permissions far beyond what a typical financial application requires, including access to contacts, SMS messages, call logs, photos, and location data. This allows malware to silently collect personal information from users’ devices.
The stolen data has fueled a vicious cycle of scams and ransomware. Apps like Spyloan apps have attractive lenders just to leverage their data for predatory lending practices. If users are unable to meet repayment requirements, operators will weaponize their information by harassing information, extorting private photos or threatening with their friends and family, and create an atmosphere of fear and coercion.
In some cases, ransomware uses stolen images to escalate into public humiliation and even creates deep tiles, thus amplifying the victim’s psychological and economic losses.

Spylend is a serious threat because it steals a lot of personal information. It mines contact lists and calls history, reads text messages, including bank alerts, and gets photos and videos from storage.
It also collects device details such as models and OS versions, tracks locations in real time every three seconds, records past locations and IP addresses, and even saves the last 20 copied text from the clipboard. Most importantly, it collects financial data such as loan history and bank SMS messages.
