Tesla accused of screwing up the probe to avoid repair costs
Tesla faces a proposed class action lawsuit that alleges it has been accelerating the detector so its vehicle will fall out of the warranty faster, . This will make it easier for companies to obtain repair costs.
Nyree Hinton claims Tesla’s odometer reader is designed to change with energy consumption, driver behavior and mysterious prediction algorithms, rather than actually driven mileage. He said the odometer of the 2020 Model Y, which he purchased in December 2022, had a clock speed of 36,772 miles at the time of purchase.
Hinton claims that the odometer drives only 20 miles a day and rises 72 miles a day. This resulted in his 50,000-mile base warranty expectation expired early, forcing him to pay $10,000 in a suspended repair fee from his pocket.
“By exaggerating the ‘ova table’ readings by placing warranty limits and lease mileage cap limits, Tesla has increased repair revenue, reduced warranty obligations, and forced consumers to purchase extended warranties too early,” the complaint said.
Hinton is seeking compensatory damages for himself, but also punitive damages for all Tesla drivers in California. This includes more than one million cars, according to court documents. Tesla denied all charges in the lawsuit. But, full of odometer complaints involving the company.
Of course, this is not the first time Tesla has been accused of involving mileage data. The automaker faces lawsuits on charges. It has also been accused of forming a secret “transfer team” that will cancel service appointments related to the series.
