Everything you need to know about prices, delays, and more
People in the UK may be able to book the Nintendo Switch 2 now, but Americans are still waiting for the time to shine. Although Nintendo initially announced its April 9 booking date, Switch 2 reservations in the United States remained delayed indefinitely. Nintendo postponed two Switch reservations in the U.S. in response to new tariffs announced by President Donald Trump
Nintendo provided Engadget with a statement: “Purchase of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States will not begin on April 9, 2025 to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will be updated on a later date. The release date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”
As part of its latest Nintendo direct talk, Nintendo has previously announced April 9th North American pre-order dates, and the broader availability dates on June 5th. The starting price is $450, but it is unclear whether this will change due to the proposed tariffs. When participating retailers eventually sell their Switch 2, we expect these retailers to include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, and more.
Book directly from Nintendo with some beautiful prints. According to the booking page on the Nintendo website, you must be at least 18 years of age, log in with your Nintendo account and register for your booking interest. Then, when you book that play, you will receive an invitation email and the invitation is valid for 72 hours. Then there is so much information: “The invitation email will be based on a first come first served basis to registrants who have purchased the Nintendo Switch online membership, as of April 2, 2025.
This seems to mean that those who have recently paid online, as well as those who spend a lot of time playing Switch games while purchasing Switch 2, will get their first choice. If you want to book from a third-party retailer, there are no such restrictions.
We know from the Switch 2 trailer that Nintendo’s new hardware will be bigger and there will be a new way to detachable Joy-Cons. The new Joy-Con 2 has a new C button, mouse controls and a built-in gyroscope for tilt control. The console has a built-in microphone that supports a new feature called Game Chat that allows you to communicate with friends in the game. The device is indeed bigger, with a 7.9-inch LCD screen that supports 120Hz refresh rate, HDR and 1080p resolution.
When docked, you will be able to play up to 4K on your TV, and Nintendo says it also improves the console’s internal speakers. The new dock also features a built-in fan that keeps the console cool and helps maintain performance during long-term playback. Switch 2 has a rechargeable dual USB-C port, with base storage increased to 256GB. The Switch 2’s storage space can be expanded like previous models, but it can only work with newer MicroSD Express cards.
The Switch 2 also comes with a lot of accessories that you can buy separately, including the new Switch 2 camera for $50, the new Switch 2 Pro Controller for $80, a pair of extra Joy-Con 2 Controllers for $90, a Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip, $35, and more. However, given the new tariff issues, it is not clear whether the prices of these accessories will change before customers actually order the equipment.
