Trump cuts $175 million to us fund colleges in the swimming team’s trans athletes

The White House said Wednesday that the Trump administration has suspended about $175 million in U.S. federal funding for the University of Pennsylvania’s federal funding amid the participation of transgender athletes at Pennsylvania’s swimming program.

Ivy League schools have been facing an education department survey that focuses on its swimming program. The investigation was announced immediately after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to ban transgender athletes from participating in women’s and women’s sports.

However, federal funds suspended come from discretionary funding reviews of the university. It comes from the Department of Defense and the Department of Health and Human Services.

A Pennsylvania spokesman said the school has not received any notice or details of the lawsuit.

“However, it is important to note that Pennsylvania has always followed the NCAA [National Collegiate Athletic Association] “With the Ivy League policy on students participating in sports teams,” said spokesman Ron Ozio.

“We have been in the past and remain today, fully compliant with regulations that apply not only to Pennsylvania, but also to all our NCAA and Ivy League peers.”

The Pennsylvania survey, opened by the Department of Education’s Civil Rights Office, focuses on Lia Thomas, who swims on the school’s women’s team and is the first publicly transgender athlete to win the I Division I title in 2022.

The agency also opened comments to San Jose State University Volleyball and the Massachusetts Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
