Carney in Canada PM
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was sworn in to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Monday to discuss strengthening economic, commercial and defence relations between the two countries.
On Saturday, Carney’s office announced his first trip abroad, brought him to France and then Britain to “strengthen our closest, longest economic and security partnership”.
According to the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office, Carney and Macron will discuss bilateral relations and artificial intelligence (AI).
Elysee Palace said in a statement issued by French media that leaders will also discuss Ukraine’s war and international crisis and the “core” of the “strategic partnership” between the two countries.
Elysee said Macron and Carney will also discuss “a view of the “significant global issues, especially the United Nations Conference on Oceans held in Nice from June 9 to 13.”
After a stop in Paris, Carney will travel to London to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, then to Nunavut, Canada, which covers more than 2 million square kilometers and forms the majority of the Canadian Arctic Islands.
“My visit to France and the UK will strengthen trade, commercial and defence ties with our strongest and most reliable partners, and my visit to Nunavut will be an opportunity to enhance Canadian Arctic sovereignty and security, as well as our plans to unlock North Korea’s full economic potential.”
