Trump says he will call Putin to discuss ending the Ukrainian war

President Trump said he will be with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday (V.
“We want to see if we can end this war,” Mr. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One Sunday night. “Maybe we can. Maybe we can’t, but I think it’s very likely we can.”
Mr Trump said negotiations had been made over the weekend and discussions were underway about “distribution of certain assets”, especially referring to concessions to land and power plants.
“I think we’re going to talk about land, it’s a lot of land. As you know, it’s a lot different from before the war,” Mr. Trump said.
He added: “We’re going to talk about power plants. It’s a big problem. But I think there’s a lot already discussed on both sides – Ukraine and Russia.”
Steve Witkoff, the U.S. envoy involved in the peace talks, said on CNN on Sunday that he held an active meeting with Mr. Putin last week, lasting three to four hours. He refused to share details of their conversation, but he said the two sides “close the difference between them”.
Ukraine has agreed to support a U.S.-backed ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Mr Putin of deliberately postponing negotiations while trying to capture Ukrainian forces to improve his position in the ceasefire.
Mr Putin asked Ukrainian troops to surrender in the Russian Kurs region on Friday. But by the weekend, after the fierce battle, the Ukrainians retreated from most of the region, giving them control of a piece of Russian land.
