South Boston St. Patrick’s Day parade begins, starting to curb “Tomfoolery”

Kiss me, I’m Irish! – But you’re better off performing.

Boston officials hope this year’s iconic South Boston St. Patrick’s Day parade will be defeated on “Tomfoolery.”

The two-on-one celebration – St. Patrick’s Day and Evacuation Day parade – is scheduled to open at 11:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 16. This is the past few years and a half hours, as politicians and parade organizers try to prevent bad behavior from revelers.

“The march will begin earlier this year in search of a better deal,” state Sen. Nick Collins said in a statement to the local media outlet (Dorchester Reporter). “Last year, there were regrettable moments in the march and we don’t want to repeat this time.”

Fox News Digital, along with Collins and City Councilman Ed Flynn, both called for parade reforms after the chaos ensued last year.

“Operate under the golden rule, if you don’t, don’t do it here,” retired U.S. Navy veteran Flynn told Fox News Digital.

Boston Police Chief Michael Cox shared similar information at a press conference Wednesday.

“We ask anyone who comes to treat this incident, neighbors, to be your home,” Cox said. “Boston is a passionate city, but the truth is, we don’t welcome unruly and illegal behavior.”

“It’s a family-friendly event. It’s not an alcohol festival,” Cox continued.

All liquor stores in South Boston will be closed at 4 p.m., and taverns and restaurants will stop acknowledging people at 6 p.m., Cox said.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade in South Boston is one of the largest in the United States. Last year’s parade attracted about a million people.

Hooley said the march was “not good at last year” and it was driven especially by “young, intoxicated people and their battles associated with it.”

According to Boston local 25 news, last year’s march was arrested. The problems include disturbing violence, attacks spreading, people on the roof without roof decks and beer cans thrown on parades, according to media reports.

“If you are a guest, or attend an evacuation day parade in South Boston, show some common courtesy and respect for our veterans and military families, our dedicated first responders, and our history,” Flynn said.

The parade was also a celebration of evacuation day – the British troops were evacuated from Boston on March 17, 1776.
