How the government shutdown helps Elon Musk

Katie Drummond: knew. Wow. We are in the middle of the highest outbreak. What will happen now? Once a measles outbreak occurs, it spreads between communities, how do you include something like that? What next steps will the United States need to take to truly control this outbreak?

Emily Mullin: Yes. OK, that’s a good question. We’ve seen measles outbreaks before. You may remember that the measles outbreak that occurred in 2019 focused on the Orthodox Jewish community in New York. This does take the basis of this strategic boot to get into the community, fight misinformation, and provide culturally sensitive information about MMR vaccine proceeds to get interest rates. Because again, there is no effective treatment for measles. This requires isolation, vaccination, because it is important to be clear that the reason we see these measles is the decline in vaccination rates across the country. People don’t trust vaccines now. For measles, vaccination rates in the community must be high, 95% to prevent outbreaks because it is contagious. In Gaines County, Texas, where most cases are currently available, the measles vaccination rate in kindergartens is 82%.

Katie Drummond: Wow.

Emily Mullin: That’s why we’re seeing such a large number of cases there. But in New Mexico, the measles vaccination rate is quite high in Lee County, where most of the happenings in New Mexico, at about 94%. However, this is a very contagious virus. We do need these prices up to 95%. This is what epidemiologists say, it is really necessary to protect a community.

Katie Drummond: Just to emphasize this for the last time. MMR vaccine, how effective is this vaccine in preventing measles in a particular person?

Emily Mullin: The vaccine for one dose is 93% effective, and the vaccine for two doses is 97%. It is recommended that the first dose is usually performed for children who are usually 12 to 15 months old. Then, when the child is between four and six years of age, a second dose is usually given.

Katie Drummond: knew. Similarly, we are just talking about the risk of measles, the most vulnerable people in a community, babies, toddlers. Of course, if I say that, the vaccine seems to be better than cod liver oil. We will have a short break. Thank you, Emily. What you need to read today when we come back. Welcome back Incredible valleyy. I am Katie Drummond, Global Editorial Director of Wired. I joined me with Emily Mullin of Wired. Now, Emily, before I let go, I actually want to recommend a story to you and our audience that everyone should read on Wired.com, except for the great stories we mentioned in this episode. This is a feature we published today by Wired contributor Lauren Smiley. Lauren is an incredible journalist and an incredible narrative writer. She delved into Boeing. If you are not scared of air travel yet, because of the FAA now and everything that has happened to Boeing in the past few years, this story won’t make you feel better. I said, as someone who took a lot of Xanax before I flew. This story will make you feel even more nervous about the safety of air travel. But it’s a seductive narrative, through the eyes of a man who actually worked at Boeing for many years, has many concerns about the safety of Boeing’s manufacturing facilities, the safety of aircraft, and often sends alarms within the company. It wasn’t until he finally left the company, and it wasn’t until then that he started to see a bad plane crash, a serious incident with Boeing, partly because he was always responsible for actual manufacturing and creation. That’s his journey as a whistleblower, and how he looked like since leaving Boeing and becoming a whistleblower, he has actually become the focus of the families of people who died in a Boeing plane crash. He has become the focus of other whistleblowers who have introduced damages about what is happening within the company. It is indeed a story of a man whose name is Ed Pierson, whose mission continues to this day to reveal what he described as a serious mistake and misconduct of Boeing that affects all our safety when we enter the plane. This is an incredible story. Again, this won’t make you feel good, but it’s a very, very good read. I highly recommend everyone to take a look. Emily, I think you actually said you read this story earlier today, so I doubt you agree with me.
