Before the boom of platforms like Reddit, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, social media and bookmarking platforms were one of the most popular sites of 2006. But Kevin Rose and Alexis Ohanian are bringing Digg back – a reboot designed to solve all of our problems with modern social media.
“Online social spaces are certainly more demanding than ever,” according to the Associated Press. “It feels really hard. I think these platforms have become more disconnected. You know, if there is a real internet hall, it feels like it’s been largely deconstructed.”
So the company offers another option: Going back in time, the point is – you guessed it – AI.
“By combining Ohanian and Rose’s historical knowledge with a deep understanding of what did not work in their Reddit and Digg experience with today’s technological advances, especially in AI, the DIGG program is at the heart of online destinations with humanity and connection,” the company said in a press release.

Digg was originally launched in 2004 and was sold in 2012. Its podcast, Diggnation, was 2005-2011 and returned in August 2024.
“When the balance between technology and human judgment is maintained, the online community thrives. We bring DIGG back to ensure there is a balance,” Ohanian said in a press release. “Kevin and I are here to build something better than what social platforms today offer. AI should handle grunts in the background, and humans focus on what they do best: to make real connections. to make real connections.
The company announced it will reintroduce the platform during SXSW on March 5, and people seem to be happy on its podcast, Diggnation live. In the comments section of the nearly 1.5-hour live broadcast of Diggnation Podcast, these comments are overwhelmingly positive – although this is just part of the live type that people will not only watch Diggnation Podcast announcements, but also comment on it, so use it with salt.

Digg is the site that was originally typical of voting on and subordinates in online posts today. But while Digg pioneered this feature to introduce it to internet culture, the most upward and downward votes led to its downfall in the first place.
