BYU QB Jake Retzlaff’s code of honor arising from sexual assault allegations was reportedly transferred after it was suspended

BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff expects the school to be suspended for seven games after the sexual assault allegations against him for violations of the Honor Code of Violation, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Every Pete Thamel of ESPNRetzlaff intends to transfer when the expected pause is suspended. Retzlaff is a graduate student and has one year of qualification.

Retzlaff denied the allegations filed in the lawsuit filed in May. He argued that he had voluntary sexual acts with the plaintiff, which seemed to be the reason he faced BYU’s suspension rather than sexual assault allegations.

According to SLT, engaging in consent premarital sex is a violation of BYU’s code of honor, which is chaired by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. BYU students are subject to a strict code of honors, which prohibits premarital sex and directs students to “live a chaste life.” Retzlaff is not a Mormon, but the Honor Code rules apply to all BYU students.

Other BYU athletes face lengthy honor code suspensions, including the NFL run back to Jamaal Williams, who missed the entire 2015 season. Williams said he told the Green Bay Packers in a pre-draft interview when asked why he missed that season.

What is Retzlaff accused of

A Salt Lake County woman, known as Jane Doe Ag in a lawsuit filed in May, was charged with Retzlaff committing sexual assault. According to the lawsuit, Retzlaff’s plaintiff claims Retzlaff sexually assaulted her at his home in 2023. The lawsuit states that she agreed to kiss in Retzlaff’s room but “don’t want to do anything else.” After repeatedly telling him “no” and “stop”, she accused Retzlaff of forcibly raping her.

According to the lawsuit, Retzlaff’s plaintiff reported to police alleged sexual assault and performed a rape kit. According to the lawsuit, she initially did not identify Retzlaff as a police officer. Retzlaff does not face criminal charges.

The lawsuit seeks at least $300,000 in damages, alleged assault, assault and intentional emotional distress.

Retzlaff denied that he assaulted the plaintiff in a legal response filed in Utah’s Third District Court on Friday. He admitted that he had sex with the plaintiff as part of a “normal voluntary sexual interaction night.” His documents say that because he is the NFL’s prospect, the plaintiff intends to “raise his money.”

Retzlaff’s pending suspension came two days after he released the court documents, saying he had committed voluntary sexual acts.

Retzlaff moved from Riverside City College to BYU in 2023 and is BYU’s starting quarterback in 2024. He led the Cougars to an 11-2 season, ending with an Alamo Bowl beating Colorado State. Retzlaff completed his 57.9% pass pass for 2,947 yards (226.7 yards per game) with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
