WNBA rookie Bueckers talks about media coverage and privileges on podcasts

Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers talked about her comments about using the platform to “celebrate Black Women” in 2021.
On the appearance of the “Nilosophy” podcast, Bueckers was asked about her comments on Espys in 2021 when she said, “I think we should use this power together to celebrate Black women,” while discussing the impact of sports media.
Bueckers answered the question, thanking the media, while also claiming to be “trying to isolate”.

“I just think…the media is great. Their job is to make headlines and get people clicking, clicking in,” Bueckers said. “The competition is great. It makes people talk about our games. They cover our games and get your attention.
“So you’re grateful to them. But, a lot of them are trying to isolate you. And, for me, it’s easy for you to do everything yourself.
Bueckers added that she also aims to attribute God to God.

“No one does anything on their own, so, like spreading, my faith is really important to me. So, using my platform to glorify God is huge and then just spreading it to others. I think, like I said, I don’t want to do anything to myself.”
In May, after Wings made the Bueckers the first overall draft pick at the 2025 WNBA Draft, the Bueckers once again spoke about the reporting issues of Black women in the league.
“Every day is still a problem,” she told her. Time Magazine. “There is never equal coverage.”

“I have white privilege every day,” she said of marketing opportunities.
“I feel like I work hard and get God’s blessing. But I do think I have more opportunities. I feel like even just the ability in the market, people tend to favor white people – white men, white women. I think that should be an equal opportunity. I feel like what I have and all white people have privileges. I realize. I want to contradict my business.”
