According to the Tasnim News Agency, three men were executed in Iran on Wednesday morning.

Tasnim reported that they were hanged in Urmian prison in western Iran for Israeli espionage, adding that “agents of the Zionist regime” intend to conduct assassination in Iran and plan to murder prominent figures. Tasnim is seen as close to the military’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) branch.

Since the beginning of the war with Israel on June 13, Iranian media have reported dozens of arrests and executions related to espionage charges.

The country is growing worried that Tehran’s leaders are using spy allegations to oppose critics and opposition members.

The Israeli attacks seriously affected Tehran’s leadership and killed many key figures in the Islamic Republic’s military institutions. Observers believe leaders may try to resist the impression of weakness with the political resilience of the domestic front.

Human rights activists have criticized the use of Iran’s death penalty for years. They accuse the judiciary of lack of transparency and unfair trials.
