German police act on hate speech online nationwide
According to information obtained by the DPA, German police have launched a nationwide action against suspicious online hate speech and incitement authors.
More than 170 operations were planned, coordinated by the Federal Criminal Police Agency (BKA).
The suspect was accused of inciting hatred and insulting politicians, etc.
The investigation focuses on far-right statements published online. Many cases also involve criminal insults to politicians, with fewer cases being published about extremist religions or the left.
Herbert Reul, the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, said it is important to find the perpetrators.
“Digital arsonists must not be allowed to hide behind a cell phone or computer,” Reul told the DPA. Of the approximately 130 surveys on Wednesday’s action on hate posts, 14 were in the North Rhine-West.
