Wind-driven ranch fire in Apple Valley Spark Evacuation Order

According to California Fire, the fire that started in Apple Valley triggered evacuation orders in the area.

In a notice posted on social media, California fire officials reported that the fire rose to 1,533 acres south of Apple Valley at around 4 p.m. Officials said the fire was driven by wind and had lower humidity, causing rapid spread.

According to the National Weather Service’s Oxnard office, winds were 22 mph around 2 p.m. and strengthened to 31 mph around 4 p.m.

“Weather conditions are expected to remain challenging in the evening,” California fire officials said in a statement. The statement said ground and air resources were used to curb the fire.

Cal Fire urges residents to “safely and immediately” to go to the evacuation site at Otit Bull Academy on 19445 Otter Bull Road.

Officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
