Coco Gauff beats Aryna Sabalenka to win the first French Open Women’s Championship

Sabalenka began a strong decision to stick to her high-stakes approach to keeping her first service.
Gauff’s response raised his own level, winning a superb rally in the third game, which drew cheers and applause from the crowd. After a fierce shot exchange, Goff hit a shot and Sabalenka made a shot between the legs before intercepting it online and ending with the winner.
Gauff aligns with the baseline and gets a breakpoint, and when Sabalenka doubles off-road, she converts it, giving her a 2-1 lead. Sabalenka turned to her box and shouted in frustration, but then returned to calm, regaining the game 3-3.
But she was broken again by Love, who won the championship twice after a game that lasted 2 hours and 38 minutes.
She said in her speech that the failure of the 18-year-old in 2022 put her in a “dark place” and then thanked fans for their fans on Philippe Chatrier, who mostly took root for her.
“The crowd today really helped me, you have earned me the hard cheers, and I didn’t know that my love for the French crowd deserves so much love,” she said. “But I thank you guys.”
Sabalenka had already shed tears when she gave her speech. She struggled to find her words, she praised Goff as a “fighter” and said she deserved the victory, but added that strong wind conditions caused a wrong game.
“It hurts so much. Coco, congratulations, you’re better than me in tough conditions,” she said. “It’s done well, a great two weeks and congratulations on the second Grand Slam, which is well deserved.”
So far, this is Gauff’s second grand slam. She defeated Sabalenka 2023 US Open Finals.
The 27-year-old Sabalenka, from Berarus, won three majors – two Australian Open and one American champion – but this is her debut in the French Open final.
It was No. 1 in Paris since 2013, when Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova and second in the past 30 years.
Sabalenka and Gauff won their latest matches a month ago on the clay field at the Madrid Open.
