Laguna Beach Police Department said James Politoski of Laguna Beach, 64, was teaching his 15-year-old daughter to drive around 2:43 p.m. Monday when she drove from the upper parking lot of Gelson Market, damaged the fence and continued to the embankment down the coastal highway near Wesley Drive and Montage Resort Drive.
Authorities say the teenager was injured and hospitalized in Mission Viejo. The politician was pronounced dead at the scene.
