Southern California man violently beats up in possible hate crime assault, suspicious shouts of racial slander

An Inglewood man recalls his life as he was brutally beaten at home by an attacker who shouted racial insults at him.

On April 15, Javier Ibarra, 41, headed to work with her door outside her home in the 200 block of West Hyde Park Avenue at 6:40 a.m.

As Ibarra’s head turned to the gate, the surveillance video captured the male suspect rushing from behind towards Ibarra and slamming his head.

The suspect, wearing a mask, gloves, a paired green hoodie and sweatpants kit, repeatedly slammed Ibara in the head and face, trying to defend himself.

“He ran around my truck and he quickly yelled at me, ‘You Mexican! I hate you!’ He started hitting me,” Ibara recalled.

The suspect eventually grabbed Ibara and threw him on the ground, and Ibara screamed in pain.

“There was a lot of blood on the whole face,” Ibara said. “My eyes were completely closed. It was a very terrible experience because when I fell on the floor, I was thinking, ‘This guy, he’s going to kill me.’ I don’t know what to do.”

Ibarra was heard yelling and calling his wife’s name as the man continued to punch and kick him.

Surveillance footage showed his wife stomping outside and quickly took her back to pick up her phone so she could record the suspect, but the man was able to escape.

As he escaped, he carried Ibarra’s house key with him. Ingwood police said his vehicle was described as a silver, blue or green Chevrolet Malibu sedan.

Hispanic Ibarra said he did not know the man and believed his goal was a possible hate crime.

“I think it must be a hate crime,” he said. “But, I don’t know why. I’m Hispanic, but I’m not looking for anybody’s problem.”

It is believed that the suspect is between the ages of 30 and 40. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds.

As Ibara continues to recover from the brutal attack, he says his wife and daughter are worried that the attackers will return.

Ibara said, “I’m more afraid, not for me, but for my daughter, because she doesn’t want to go to school, she doesn’t want to go out, she doesn’t want to play.”
