The Trump Department of Homeland Security has slammed the New York Times to publish “sobbing stories” about illegal immigrants who have been deported while ignoring the victims.
The department criticized the media for publishing accounts about Nascimento Blair, a 44-year-old Jamaican national who was evacuated from the country by ICE on February 27 and was found guilty of kidnapping.
On Thursday, the New York Times published a wide story about Blair in which the media claimed he was a “changing person” and “rebuilding his life and seeking redemption.”
The Times reported that in addition to the kidnapping, Blair also sold marijuana and was accused of kidnapping, “pistol blowing” and asking for money from teenagers who stole some supplies. After being convicted of kidnapping, The Times said Blair spent time in prison to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degree, and after his release, he participated in the community and volunteered.

“For Mr. Blair and his supporters, his life is one of the stories of recovery, nuanced, full of traits that they believe Mr. Trump’s deportation machine ignores immigrants’ deportation machine,” the media wrote.
Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, slammed the Times’ report and asked: “Why does The New York Times continue to peddle stories about illegal foreigners in crimes and ignore their victims?”
According to a statement from the ICE, Blair entered the U.S. in 2004 and then violated his admission terms. A year after arriving, Blair was arrested by the Mount Vernon Police Department for abducting a first-degree kidnapping. He was convicted of crime and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The agency said an immigration judge ordered the evacuation of Blair from the United States on August 4, 2008. However, Blair was allowed to stay in the country after the New York State Department of Corrections released him on parole on April 9, 2020.

ICE’s New York Field Office finally arrested him on February 3, 2025.
McLaughlin told Fox News Digital that this was “due to the last administration’s open border policy, the illegal aliens of this crime were released on the streets of New York.”
