Major League Baseball News: Former fielder Chito Martinez dies in 59

The Baltimore Orioles announced Tuesday that Chito Martinez is the only MLB player from Belize. He is 59 years old.

Martinez worked as an outfielder for three years in the three years as an outfielder. He competed in 158 professional games, hitting .259 with 18 home runs, 58 RBIs and 22 doubles.

“We mourn the passing of former Oriole outfielder Chito Martinez, the only person in Belize to play in the Grand Slam,” said the Oriole in an article on X.

Chito’s son Dalton Martinez wrote on X that his father died on Easter.

“On Easter Sunday night, my dad was taken away unexpectedly,” he wrote. “We desperately need help during this time. My dad is one of the best people. Teach baseball the right way. Teach young people how to get better. His presence in my life can never be replaced. Consider helping when I bring pieces to my life.

The cause of death is unknown.

Chito Martinez is the sixth round pick of the Kansas City Royals in the 1984 draft by the New Orleans Martin High School brothers.

The royal family released him in 1990 and he signed with the Orioles a few days later. The Orioles released him after the 1993 season and later joined the Minnesota Twins. But he never showed up with the twins.
