China’s power system hits record clean energy output in Q1

It is reported Reutersciting data from energy think tank Ember.

This growth surpassed other major markets such as Europe and the United States and increased the share of cleaning capacity in the Chinese generation to a record 39%.

Wind farms are the best source of clean electricity, contributing 307 TWH, accounting for 13% of total power generation.

Solar energy also recorded 48% of output growth to 254 TWH, accounting for 10% of total power generation.

China’s utility-scale solar energy exceeds 880GW in 2024, more than any other country.

This is due to the increase in new capacity, which first allows solar and wind energy to exceed the power dam during the period from January to March 3.

Hydropower production also increased by 7% to 226 TWH, while nuclear energy increased by 13% to 117 TWH.

These developments have allowed China to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, with coal-fired power output falling by 4% to 1,421 TWH and factory output of gaseous fuels down by 4% to 67 TWH.

China’s 19% of the Clean Generation is far more than the US’s 6%, compared with a 5% drop in clean capacity production in Europe.

China’s lead is expected to expand, especially in the peak months of July and August, with expectations of solar output expected to rise.

With the 720GW solar project in the pipeline, including a large 100GW solar wall, China’s dominance in clean energy will continue.

Large solar walls developed in Inner Mongolia and adjacent areas are scheduled to be completed in 2030.

In addition to the expansion of clean energy, China also intends to build coal-fired power plants by 2027 under the government upgrade plan.

“China’s power system reaches its clean energy output in Q1 2025”, originally created and released by global data-owned brand Power Technology.
