Thousands of Norwegians mistakenly told them they won millions in the lottery

Last week, thousands of lottery players in Norway were wrongly informed that they had won more money than they actually did.

State-owned gambling company Norsk Tipping said Friday that those who won European stocks were told they won millions of dollars in incorrect amounts. It is unclear how many people were affected, but no customers received the wrong prize, the company said in a press release.

The company said the error was caused by the error in which the company received the euro bonus from Germany was converted to Norwegian kroner.

“I’m so sorry we were disappointed with us, and I know people were angry with us,” Norsk’s tip Tonje Sagstuen said in a translation statement. “I’ve received messages from many people who managed to make plans for vacations, buy an apartment or refurbish before they realize the amount is wrong. All I can say is: Sorry! But I know it’s a little comfort.”

On Saturday, Sagstuen announced that she was resigning. The company said she has been working at the company since 2014 and has been CEO since September 2023.

“As a manager, I have a responsibility to deal with the errors that have occurred and I’m happy to see how the UN Noske Tip deals with challenges and work day and night to solve those challenges,” Sagstuen said in a translation statement. “That’s why leaving Noske Tip and all the talented people working in Hamar is also very sad.”

Norwegian broadcaster TV2 reported that Sagstuen will receive six months of severance under its employment contract. As of last year, she was reportedly paid 3,732,000 kroner, or $370,338, according to TV2.

Norsk Tipping said in an announcement posted on its website that it has encountered many technical problems over the past year and is investigating how the errors occur.
