Bernie Sanders: If AI is so good, a 4-day work week should be easy

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders recently returned to the Joe Rogan podcast, he argued if Artificial intelligence makes workers more productive, so the obvious trade-off should be an easier work week. Specifically, he advocated shifting workflow to just four days.

Sanders commented on the June 24 podcast by Joe Rogan.

“You are a worker and your productivity is getting better because we give you AI, right?” Sanders said. “I’m not throwing you on the street, but reducing your work week to 32 hours.”

Mixable light speed

He added: “By the way, not a radical idea. Companies around the world are doing some success.”

Sanders regularly advocates a four-day working week and noted that United Auto Unions are working on this in their latest contract negotiations. Last year, the Senators introduced the 32-hour work week bill, which stressed that moving to shorter work weeks should “no pay losses.”

“Let’s use technology to benefit workers,” Sanders said in an interview. “This means giving you more time to educate with your family and your friends, and you don’t have to work 40 hours a week no matter what you want to do.”

It seems unlikely that company leaders will accept the idea of returning to work hours with the same salary, but maybe one day, AI will give us more free time.
