UN maintainer killed in attack by armed personnel in Central African Republic

Senegal Dhaka (AP) – The United Nations killed a UN peacekeeper in an attack on armed personnel in the Central African Republic on Tuesday as the Security Commission expressed concerns about the attack on peacekeepers in the country.

A Zambian peacekeeper attacked a peacekeeping patrol with Sudan on Friday when a Sudan armed group attacked a United Nations peacekeeping patrol on the northern border of the country with Sudan, according to a statement from the Secretary-General’s spokesperson’s office.

The second peacekeeper was injured and was undergoing medical treatment.

The victim was identified as Stephen Muluké Sachachoma, 33, a member of the Zambian army on the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic.

Mulambo Haimbe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, demanded that those responsible be brought to justice under international law.

“Zambia remains firm in advancing international peace and security as the basis for sustainable development, both regionally and globally,” Haimbe said in a statement.

It marks the third attack on the country’s United Nations peacekeeping mission this year is often carried out by armed groups fighting for armed groups that control and target security forces in conflict areas.

The Secretary-General’s spokesperson’s office said: “The number of attacks on peacekeeping personnel by members of the Security Council on the Central African Republic is becoming increasingly profound.”

The Central African Republic has been fighting the conflict since 2013, when it was mainly Muslim rebels seized power, and was forced to serve François Bozizé from the office. The 2019 peace agreement only partially reduced combat, while six of the 14 armed groups signed later withdrew from the agreement.

The country was one of the first countries in Africa to welcome Russian-backed forces, and Moscow sought help in protecting the authorities and fighting armed groups. However, these forces are accused of human rights violations, which in some cases can exacerbate security issues.
