Adobe’s new Firefly AI app lets you try AI image and video generation for free

The company announced Tuesday that Adobe’s Firefly AI is now available as a mobile app for iPhone and Android. These apps are free to download and let you create AI images and videos on the go using Firefly. Additionally, the app has some free generated points for you to try out Adobe’s AI.

Adobe will also expand its roster of third-party AI partners to include six new models from ideology, pickups, Luma and runways. Google’s latest AI models are also joining the lineup, including the Internet-renowned VEO 3 AI video generation model and Imagen 4 text-to-image model support with native audio capabilities. Finally, its mood board AI program, Firefly Boards, is usually available after a few months in Beta.

Here is all about Adobe’s latest batch of Firefly AI updates. For more information, check out our favorite AI image generators and knowledge about AI video models.

Firefly AI for iOS and Android users

Adobe’s Firefly mobile app will give you access to its AI image and video features from your phone. A mobile app feels like the next natural step, as Adobe sees a significant increase in use of fireflies on mobile networks after Adobe’s Firefly Video feature was launched in early 2025.

Not all Firefly features will be available at startup, but for the time being, we know that these features will include: text to images, text and image to video, generating fills and generating expansions. You can download the app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store now.

AI map collection

The app is free to download, but you need an Adobe plan with Fireflies to actually use the app. Hopefully you can sign up for a full plan, Adobe can give you 12 free-generation firefly credits (10 images, 2 videos, each video won’t sway with many people). So you can use these to see if the fireflies are perfect for you.

The Firefly plan starts at 2,000 points (about 20 videos) per month, from which it raises prices and power generation points. Depending on your Adobe plan, you may already have access to Firefly points, so check it out first.

Adobe from Google, Runway and other six new AI models

Adobe has also added new AI external AI Creative Models to its products, including image and video models from ideological maps, pickups, Luma and runways. You might identify the name of the runway from the deal with Lionsgate to create a model for the entertainment giant. Ideological map, pickup and Luma are all other famous AI creative services. Google’s VEO 3 AI video generator is also joining, with its first synced AI audio capabilities and the latest generation of Google AI Image models.

This is the second batch of third-party models Adobe has added to its platform. Earlier this spring, Adobe worked with OpenAI, Google and Black Forest (the creator of Flux) to bring the company’s AI model to Adobe. It is unique that all third-party models must agree to Adobe’s AI policy, which prevents all companies from training customer content – even if individual companies do not own the policy themselves, it is standardized through all models offered by Adobe. The same is true for the new models added today. This is good news for professional AI Wary creators who make up most Adobe users.

You need a paid Firefly plan to access external models; otherwise, you just need to access the Adobe model. Here are all the AI models provided by Adobe:

  • Adobe Firefly Image 3
  • Adobe Firefly Image 4
  • Adobe Firefly Images Ultra
  • Flux 1.1 Pro
  • Flux 1 Kontext
  • Google Imaging 3
  • Openai’s image generation model
  • (New) Ideological Figure 3
  • (New) Google Imaging 4
  • (New) Gen-4 Images of Runway

For videos, you can use:

  • Adobe Firefly Video
  • Google VEO 2
  • (New) Google VEO 3
  • (New) Luma ai Ray 2
  • (New) Pika’s text to video generator

Adobe’s own Firefly AI model has been trained in combination with Adobe Stock and other licensed content. You can learn more in Adobe’s AI Guide and AI Methods.

AI mood board has been enhanced

Other Adobe updates include a general version of its mood board plan, Firefly Boards, which has been in Beta since April. A mood board is an exercise that allows you to bring together different elements, such as colors and shapes, to evoke specific emotions and aesthetics. This is a great first step to planning content and campaigns.

Adobe

You can use unlimited canvas to brainstorm and plan content. You can use Adobe and non-Adobe models to generate images and videos on the board; these settings are very similar to those generated in a regular firefly window. The board is collaborative so you can edit with multiple people. A new one-click arrangement button can help you organize and visualize files more easily, a highly requested feature that appears in Beta.

Firefly board syncs with your Adobe account. So you can select a photo on the board, open it in Photoshop and edit it. These changes will then sync with the Firefly Board in less than a minute, so you can always see the latest version of the file without being limited to editing on the board.
