The regular fishing trip of Yvonne Norman and her brothers along St. Augustine became an experience she and the world would never forget.
Yvonne Norman of Clay County hung a giant African Bompano on Monday, 9 miles from St. Augustine.
She told me she had never seen someone that big, and after a quick search online, she realized that her day was the biggest gain of her life.

“We both went, ‘you know,’ you know, because it’s amazing in size.”
“The biggest record with records is filling out all paperwork, which was out in 1990 in Titusville, which was 39.5 pounds,” Norman said. “So we started weighing the fish.”
She returned home and weighed the fish on a regular scale. When she saw the number, she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“It weighs 40 pounds. We have to take it to a professional store and have her record it,” Norman said.
She called the Beamish Custom Tackle Shop in St. Augustine and introduced them to her potential world record. When she arrived to weigh, two policemen were there to serve as official witnesses.
