AirPods will reportedly get new features such as camera control, sleep detection and more

There are a lot of predictions about what we see from Apple before next week’s annual global developer conference. From iOS 26 to a game center alternative, Rumor Mill will surely be full of expectations.
The latest leak could mean a significant change in your AirPods. According to a report from 9to5mac, Apple has been working on a new AirPods upgrade and announced it with an unnamed source.
Five major AirPods features reported
Last year, the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 got head gestures that allow you to nod or shake your head to accept and fire the phone. According to the 9TO5MAC report, one of the new gestures that can be revealed is the amount of dialogue awareness adjustment you can currently make by pressing, holding or brushing the AirPods stem.
Sleep detection is another potential new feature. If you play ze in AirPods, this will automatically pause your music or podcast. It is not clear whether this feature will exist independently or integrate with sleep detection on the Apple Watch.
According to the report, you can also get camera control through AirPods. 9to5mac reports that clicking on the AirPods stem will give you access to your iPhone or iPad camera. Audio mixing announced through the iPhone 16 model may also come. Audio mix uses machine learning to adjust the quality of the audio to separate background noise from speech. The new AirPods mode will add three existing voice options: In-frame, Studio and Movie.
Ultimately, there are rumors that the AirPod can provide an improved pairing experience for shared iPads, which may include fewer manual steps.
It is possible for Apple to delay or change things before WWDC. Maybe we’ll get one or two features at a time. We just need to see what happens at the event, which begins with a keynote speech on June 9.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
