Bobrovsky stopped 19 of the 21 photos he faced, made some important savings when needed, and got help from lockdown defense, which took the puck away from the Oilers.

Marchand, Bennett and Sam Reinhart provide the offense. Marchand joined Mario Lemieux, the only player to score in the finals in the past half century, with his 13 professional goals in the finals being the most active players.

“I’m just enjoying every moment,” he said in his fourth final and third innings since winning the Cup against Boston in 2011. “It’s such a special group of people and I’m having a lot of fun here right now. To be honest, I feel honestly like a young guy in the league, excited and happy to be a part of the group.”

Connor McDavid was 3-0 behind the Oilers for his first goal. Reinhart arrived after 46 seconds to restore the Panthers’ three-point lead, and it was too late when Corey Perry had 3:13 left.

Eetu Luostarinen closed it with an empty net, leaving 1:19, silencing the crowd that had been shot for the last time.

“We just played the game earlier,” said Nurse Darnell, an oiler defender. “We can all agree in our room that we’ll get better.”

Edmonton’s power game was 3-3, a radical penalty kick from the Panthers to kill McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and other top units.

Calvin Pickard lost for the first time in eight games this spring, allowing four goals out of 18 goals. After relieving and winning Game 4, he nodded to Stuart Skinner and improved to 7-0, which is now a 7-1 record.

Skinner may return to Game 6, while the Panthers aim to put things over after another transcontinental trip back to another corner of North America. They bounced back in Game 4 and rebounded in overtime, using their depth to send the oilers to the edge again, and they are in this place.

“We’re very good at bounce all the playoffs,” said Markander. “We learned a great lesson there in the last game and thought we were doing better in this game.”
