Guangzhou Teachers Union Award Scholarship

Guangzhou – The Guangzhou Professional Educators Association has awarded four Canton City Schools senior scholarships.

The $2,000 Nathaniel Roberts scholarship was awarded as senior Tooba Sindhu of McKinley’s early college high school and Henry Tobias of McKinley’s senior high school. CPEA $2,000 Samuel J. Dorto Jr. Jr. Scholarship is Jalynn Daviduk, a senior at Timken Career & Tech Campus at McKinley High School. The CPEA Yvonne Parks scholarship is Mariah McClain, a senior at McKinley High School.

Carmella Danus received a memorial scholarship of $1,000 from the Canton Professional Educators Association; Blaise Donatelli, Zachariah Ketchum; Reise Klein; Caroline Kliem; Kylin Miles; Amanda Morton; Katherine Oliver; Elizabeth Riding; and Nadia Watts-Jackson.

The Canton Professional Educators Association awarded the Karen Zutali Award for its 2025 Education Award at its recent CPEA annual spring banquet. Zutali is the coach of Choices High School. She serves as secretary as CPEA executive leadership team.

Tim Smith, math teacher at McKinley High School, is another three nominees for the award-winning CPEA educator of the year at the banquet. Paula Waltman-Kliem, kindergarten teacher at Aim Academy; and Peggy Wagner, intervention expert at Choices High School.

The CPEA “Community Partnership Award” has been awarded to Be Beation Me Foundation, a community-based foundation whose mentoring program is designed for youth aged 11 to 17. Its tutoring program is for students from third to 12 years.

CPEA also acknowledged Officer Lamar Sharpe as an Aside from the Year. Sharpe is a school resource officer and former assistant football coach at McKinley High School. Sharp is a 24-year veteran of the Guangzhou Police Department.

Christy Yeagley leads Malvin Elementary School

Malvern – Brown’s local board of education recently unanimously approved the hiring of Christy Yeagley as the next principal of Malvern Elementary School. Yeagley, who teaches second grade at Minerva Primary School, brings 19 years of teaching and leadership experience to her new role. Yeagley has recently been recognized as the Teacher of the Year for the Minerva Local School District. She is the main language arts and ACE mathematics teacher at Minerva Elementary.

Yeagley holds a bachelor’s degree in basic education from United Hill University and a master’s degree in education administration from the American College of Education. She will officially serve as principal on August 1 after the current principal Danielle Hawk transitions to her new position as Dean of Brown’s local school.

Ordinary local schools win the National Hawk Magazine Excellence Award

Normal Twp. – General local schools have received the National Association for Excellence Award for its flagship publication Eagle Country magazine.

NSPRA’s Award for Excellence in Publications and Digital Media Awards awards to the best public relations in schools, respecting high-quality publications, marketing materials, videos, websites and social media. According to the press release, the awards of excellence are the highest distinction in each category, judged by content and quality compared to peer submissions across the country.

Heritage Christian School wins the Biological Leadership Award

Guangzhou – The Ohio Christian Education Network has appointed Heritage Christian Academy as the Bronze Level winner of the first Mike and Page Harthorn Life Dignity Award.

The Hartshorn Award is awarded to K-12 schools that intend to incorporate biological values ​​into their curriculum. The award is named after Mike and Peggy Hartshorn, the leader of the biological movement.

According to the press release, Heritage Christian School cultivates recognition of its biological culture in the school community through teaching, student engagement and support for the cause of life expression.

The school will receive digital awards and commemorative plaques this fall at the center of the Basic Summit of Christian Virtue.
