Army 250th anniversary parade divides political divide on Trump’s birthday

Thousands of planned protests remained peaceful as the Army’s 250th anniversary march began, followed by a week of violent opposition protests in Los Angeles and other cities.

No king organizer chose to hold demonstrations the same day as the military parade, which coincides with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
“Sad Democrats and liberals would rather support criminals and illegal persons than celebrate the 250th anniversary of our great U.S. Army and Flag Day,” Zhang wrote in a post X. “But more and more Americans are commemorating our brave military men and women who have made their ultimate sacrifices, and those who continue to serve our country.”

Republican lawmakers cheered on the work, describing it as an “incredible opportunity” to demonstrate the strength, discipline and teamwork of the U.S. military.
R-Ga. “It is an honor to support the service members of our nation’s capital,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote in an X post. “Thank you to every man and woman in uniform for their dedication and service to our country!”

But Democrats have criticized the Army’s celebration primarily because it is an excuse to celebrate Trump’s birthday.
Shortly after the parade began Saturday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom spoke, saying the celebrations were “should be about” service members.

Newsom wrote on X: “Our service members are heroes. We are proud of the brave men and women who serve the U.S. military and the brave men and women they serve. They have dedicated their lives to something bigger than themselves. Today should be about them. Not Donald Trump.”
A few minutes later, Newsom’s press office posted a photo at the event with the caption: “This is the largest presidential birthday party ever.”

Despite the split remarks about the incident, the U.S. Army said the march “remind us that we have been in the United States and we will forever. It’s our defense.”
