The local PS3 emulator for Android can be found on the Play Store

We’re one step closer to getting the PlayStation 3 game, which can run smoothly on Android smartphones. Less known developers have released APS3E, a PS3 emulator that can run locally on Android, to the Google Play Store. Indie developers have been creating ways to mimic our favorite nostalgia, but providing a straightforward approach on Android devices is an important step in the emulation world.

Before you dive, it is worth noting that APS3E has the same problem as other emulators, which means it doesn’t have the same smooth experience as playing on the older PS3. Even the Play Store page warns that the app is “still actively developing and may not work with all the games you like”. Early reports from users claimed that the app was prone to crashes, still had several bugs, and did not provide reliable frame rate performance. The app is suitable for high-end Android devices with the latest processor and recommends about 12 GB of RAM for a decent gaming experience. The app has built-in screen controls, but the website claims it supports certain Bluetooth controllers.

This latest app isn’t the only way to simulate PS3 games on Android devices, but it’s the first to be listed in the Play Store. There are a lot of criticisms about developers pulling code from other PS3 simulation projects, but the project has since been open sourced on its GitHub page. Currently, APS3E is available for free without ads, but there is a premium version that costs $5 and is designed to support developers. Android emulator has been downloaded over 10,000 times.
