Google will reduce battery life of certain pixels 6A phones to prevent overheating
Google’s Pixel 6a is a winner in many ways, but new issues with smartphone batteries can cause security issues. back Android Authoritative A pair of examples reported in which the Pixel 6A battery overheated to the point where the device caught fire, the publication found some details in the latest Android 16 beta that suggests that the Pixel 6A battery capacity and charging speed will be reduced for prevention. In addition, Android Authority received this statement from Google:
A subset of Pixel 6A phones will require mandatory software updates to reduce the risk of potential battery overheating. The update will implement a battery management feature that will reduce capacity and charging performance after the battery reaches 400 charge cycles. We will contact affected clients next month to resolve all information about the issue.
The Pixel 6a will get software support by July 2027, but that’s just the latest entry on the device’s line and has encountered battery issues this year. In January, Google introduced an update to reduce the battery life of the Pixel 4A to improve stability on the 2020 phone model. Then in April, the company started repair and payment plans after some of the batteries in Pixel 7A were “swelling”.
