Xbox Games Showcase: The Outer Worlds 2 is getting clues from Fallout: New Vegas

Itsidian Entertainment returns in The Extraordinary Flavor of Corporate Rissopia in Outer Worlds 2, and we dig into their latest first-person shooter RPG in the Special Features section at the end of Xbox Games Showcase 2025.
The External World 2 is much larger than its predecessor, even if it is limited to one planet (the first External World has two planets and a handful of small asteroids and space station locations). Obsidian is doubling its commitment to the prestige RPG experience and borrowing the best parts of its iconic hit game Fallout: New Las Vegas.
The Planet Arcadia in Outer World 2 is a dangerous place, inspired by the battlefields of the World War I era. As you step into war between large competitors in the border world, it will require all your wisdom (and the proper construction and burden) to survive.
This is what you must expect when Outer World 2 is released on October 29.
Players will be able to enhance their build in a way that completely changes the tasks throughout the game.
Classic Obsidian RPG elements are returning in large quantities
The outside world encourages players to place skill points on certain forms of combat and skills, but the sequel is working hard to focus on your character building.
This time, your character is the agent of the Earth Bureau, who is stepping into the middle of the war against Arcadia as the de facto “good guy.” However, when creating characters, you make three big choices, which will completely change the way you play.
Even if you are a law enforcement officer, you can choose the background of the character – this will change how you solve problems throughout the game. You could be a book official, a bad cop, or a lazy lice, a disco ball.
You will also have the opportunity to select positive and negative traits, which will change your conversation options and provide you with passive gains and debuffs that affect your build.
Finally, you assigned skill points. The skill tree in Outer World 2 is condensed into fewer options than the first game, but every skill you spend will be more influential. This is a system that Itsidian Entertainment “borrowed” entirely from Fallout: New Las Vegas, so it will be very familiar to fans of that particular ARPG.
When you leave the character creation screen, your buildCrafting does not end. Some of the weirdest skills in the game are the flaws that are provided to you based on the way you play. If you squat down regularly, you get a permanent speed gain of motion – but when you stand up, your knees will break, alerting nearby enemies. If you can’t help stealing from the vendor, you’ll get bonus cash when fenced items – but your character will occasionally automatically plunder any hovering items.
These deficiencies can cause you to have cataracts and get debuffs to launch the entire magazine without reloading and more content, and they are just one example of how you develop the build and role-playing experience throughout the game.
One of the friendly faces you encounter is the victim of animal limb experiments. The grafted Godric greeted him.
New planet, friends and company promotion
While the original External World game takes place in several narrow little episodes in the Halcyon Star system, External 2 focuses on a planet involved in a three-way conflict between the authoritarian protector, selfless commands and the cruel and ruthless Aunt Cleo company.
Although Aunt Cleo has a firm grasp of Arcadia, the dangerous crack called Warp is threatening the company’s bottom line. All three factions want to resolve the distortion for their own selfish reasons, but they won’t work together – instead, they are fighting for players’ support to win the power struggle.
Of course, when you’re gallivant in Arcadia, you’re not only dealing with the factions that don’t show up. Six new companions are scattered around the world, each equipped with special equipment, skills and character exploration lines.
One of my favorite parts of the showcase is the companion Tristan like Judge Dredd. Players will be able to encourage his brand of extrajudicial justice or curb his murder plot.
To avoid dealing with these guys, it might be worth finding another way on the bridge.
Different ways to solve problems
If you don’t want to get rid of all kinds of situations, you won’t have to. Obsidian is committed to allowing you to shoot, stealth and speak out to get rid of the problem throughout the game. In some cases, you might even figure out more unorthodox ways to accomplish the task at hand.
The display cabinet of the outside world takes an example from the early stages of the game, and players will have to cross a bridge within the jurisdiction of the protector. They have a raptor problem that no one can pass until it is handled. The most direct way to get into the bridge is to help soldiers eliminate the Raptors, but there are also clever (and immoral) solutions.
Players can easily find air cushion starts to fly through the gap, thus completely circumventing the need for bridges. The most evil and selfish players can throw their new partner into the Raptors and let them be torn to pieces, causing interference to prevent them from danger.
If you use your brain and interact with character building, you will always be able to find a way to improve – this is another key point in Fallout: The New Vegas Design Ideas.
This time, the gun has more particularity and features special reload animations and tweaked sound designs.
First-person shooting did not reverse
Obsidian games usually focus on RPG elements first. Shooting is not an afterthought, but usually nothing to write about. In Outer World 2, the gun is getting upgrades based on mechanics and resonance, which will help the instant gameplay feel more sensitive and exciting.
Now aiming at the sight is a smoother experience that allows players to more reliably shoot rifts within the enemy’s range – new animations of weapon exchange, reloading and other gun interactions will help improve Arsenal’s management.
The weapon recoil has been reduced, making more guns feel like satisfying bullet hoses, and the sound design has been readjusted so more weapons sound crunchy and impactful.
In External World 2, there are more weapons to choose from, including the introduction of throwable objects such as Frag Grenades and Noisemakers to help flush enemy cover.
The returned scientific weapons are gaining buffs that combine them with the roster of new gadgets and guns.
Weird weapon array
There are traditional weapons, laser rifles and explosive launchers in Outer World 2, many of which are. However, players do want to look for special scientific weapons with unique shooting modes and effects.
Some science weapons are recovering from the first game to make them more feasible, such as shrink rays, which no longer wears out the enemies (this time you can walk over and squeeze them like a bug).
Other scientific weapons are brand new snacks you can add to Arsenal. There is a tumor gun firing an explosive pustules, a type of gun whose gun is locked onto the lock and is legally distinctive bfg that chops the enemy with warped energy and deals even more damage when you defeat the enemy.
The Science Armor is also making its debut. We saw a nasty fleshy bodysuit in the exhibition that will slam nearby enemies during the battle. The new third-person camera mode for Outer World 2 will give you the first look at these armored pieces.
Outer World 2 will release the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC on October 29.
