Nintendo’s Switch 2 hits store shelves, it’s a sign of hot demand
Story: Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console will be available in Japan on Thursday.
Early signs are that the Kyoto-based company may be hit again.
The company said it received 2.2 million lottery applications to secure one of the early units.
In the United States, Target’s reservations sold out in two hours.
The fan said she didn’t win a slot in the lottery and then worked hard to find anything available in the store, eventually succeeding on the Tokyo-based e-retailer BIC camera.
Nintendo has had a huge success on the original Switch, with 152 million sold so far.
Now the new version looks very similar, but has a larger screen, improved graphics and a controller that uses magnets.
The price in the U.S. is about $450, and the company expects to sell about 15 million units in the fiscal year.
Serkan Toto, owner of consulting firm Kantan Games, said the demand seemed high.
He said it might take several months to walk into the store and hope to find a store that is available.
Investors are also bullish, while Nintendo shares are close to record highs this year.
However, analysts will see if sales momentum will continue once stubborn Nintendo fans have all obtained the Switch 2.
Some observers also say that the roster of games available at launch is not like this.
The buyer said he was glad some of the games in Sony PlayStation 5 now come with new switches, but would like to see more of this transfer.
Donald Trump’s trade war is imminent with all the regular considerations.
If tariffs rise sharply, that could lead Nintendo to test how it manages the supply and price of its new console.
