Militants ride Gaza with Greta Thunberg
The militants intend to use sailing boats to bring aid supplies to the Gaza Strip, and Swedish activist Greta Thunberg boarded the aid ship.
A spokesman for the Free Fleet Alliance confirmed on Sunday that Madleen had set sail from the Sicilian city of Catania, adding that 12 militants from various countries were joining.
The militants announced their intention to use the ship to break what they call “Illegal Blockade of Israel” and bring “humanitarian aid, hope and solidarity” to Gaza.
Baby food and medical supplies are reportedly on board. The organization’s goal is to attract international attention to the humanitarian situation based on their own statements and their actions.
A month ago, activists had tried to show solidarity with Gaza with aid ship. At that time, a fire broke out on a ship they used near the island of Malta. The activists say it was a drone attack, and the Malta government rejected that.
Dunberg had previously wanted to join the boat with her activists. The 22-year-old is known for her efforts for more climate change, but for some time she has been advocating for Palestinians. By doing so, she repeatedly criticized Israel’s actions in the Gaza war.
Recently, Israel has slightly alleviated the nearly three-month lockdown on food, medicine and other essential supplies in the Gaza Strip. Israel said it wants to put pressure on the Palestinian Islamic Hamas movement to release hostages it owns in coastal areas.
Israel’s attack on Gaza began with the Hamas attack in October 2023 and has now lasted for a year and a half.
