Video showing derailed trains radiated the wrong claim on social media that it showed a recent accident in Thailand as the rainy season began. Heavy rains are often accused of a railway accident in the Kingdom, but the editing is over a year ago.

“Yesterday, the train stood out from the tracks. No one was injured. Everyone was safe.” Thai Explained Facebook Reel released on May 20, 2025.

The video has been viewed over 32,000 times – showing a group of people standing next to a derailed carriage with puddles on the track.

Railway accidents in Thailand are often accused of heavy rain, resulting in delays and closures (archived here and here).

Thailand’s Meteorological Department announced that the rainy season begins on May 15 and until July, with higher than average rainfall in the north and northeast (reported link).

The false claims were shared elsewhere on Facebook, and the statement went on to say the clip was shot in Phrae province in northern Thailand.

However, reverse image search using keyframes combined with keyword search on Google led to the same Tiktok video (archive link) released on September 30, 2023.

“Tourists became victims. September 30, 2023, 5:40 am. Before arriving at Ban’s station, train 13 derailed in Frei Province. No one was injured,” his Thai subtitles read.

The user added in the comments that he heard loud noises on different carriages.
