The Dutch Museum displays Victorian condoms decorated with erotic art of naughty nuns and clergy

The Hague, Netherlands – The Dutch National Museum exhibits a new object that merges art with Amsterdam’s infamous red light district: a nearly 200-year-old condom engraved with erotic art.

Rijksmuseum said in a statement that the prophecy of playfulness, believed to have been made around the sheep’s appendix, “depicted the playfulness and serious side of sexual health.”

The condom may be a souvenir from a brothel, decorated with erotic images of a nun and three clergy.

The phrase “This is my choice” is written in French. According to the museum, this is a reference to Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s painting “The Trial of Paris” which depicts the Trojan Prince of Paris, judging the beauty pageant between the three goddesses.

“Getting this cannula allows us to focus on 19th-century sex and prostitution, a theme that is undernumbered in our collection. It embodies the slighter and darker side of sexual health, in an age of pursuit of sensory pleasure, when seeking fear of unwelcome pregnancy and sexual intercourse diseases, especially Syphilis, and especially Syphilis, especially the site.

The museum said it received condoms at auction with the support of FG Waller-Fonds, supported by the Memorial Foundation, which was founded in 1938, in honor of one of the Rijksmuseum’s benefactors.

The museum says the sexual-themed art history will be on display until the end of November.
