A German train passenger faces complicated rescue after being trapped under the handrail while searching for fallen Apple airpods.

Firefighters responded to the Lehrte Railway Station in Lower Saxony on Friday, May 23, around 10:10 local time, Volunteer Fire Department Lehrte said in an incident report.

“After arriving, the situation was so high that a train heading to Braunschweig on the Westfalenbahn train was trapped under the armrests, behind the seat, behind the side panels, and unable to release himself.”

“This was triggered by his airpods, which dropped and slipped into the gap in the side panels,” the department added.

People contacted Volunteer Fire Department Lehrte on Tuesday, May 27 for more information.

The agency noted that what seemed easy at first to rescue turned out to be a complex operation because the passenger’s hands were too swollen to use simple equipment.

As a result, emergency personnel first removed the train’s luggage rack and seats, and then used a saw to remove the handrail.

“The side panels were then opened with a combination spreader, wide enough that after about an hour and a half, the person could finally get out of the situation,” the fire department report said.

The authorities added that passengers were then taken to emergency services. At present, his condition is still unknown. Meanwhile, officials noted that Airpods were finally discovered.

According to the fire department, a blanket covered the side of the train in the rescue operation to cover up passengers’ phone calls.

“As the operation was extended for a while, the train crew evacuated the train and replaced the train,” officials said.
