Small boats to sail in Dunkirk memorial
A fleet of 66 “small ships” will sail from Ramsgate to the French port to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Operation Dynamo.
From 26 May to 4 June 1940, about 1,000 ships sailed from heavy enemy fires, rescuing more than 338,000 British and Allied troops from Dunkirk Beach.
The organizer’s spokesman, Dunkirk Boat Association (ADLS), said: “This commemoration will honor the courage and sacrifice of those participating in the Dynamo Operation.
“This also ensures that the legacy of the Dunkirk boat continues to inspire future generations.”

The boat will sail from Ramsgate Royal Harbour on Wednesday at 06:00 and arrive at Dunkirk at 16:00 BST depending on weather and sea conditions.
The organization was founded in 1966 to preserve ships, adding that this is their first transit since 2015.
ADLS organizes crossovers every five years, but due to the pandemic, the expedition was cancelled in 2020.
The ships will be escorted by the Royal Navy and RNLI, the audience fleet of modern crafts by Ramsgate and Dunkirk.
The boat first returned to the French port in 1965. The idea came from World War II pilot Raymond Baxter Obe, who later became the host of the BBC’s World Plan for Tomorrow.
