Private secretary and consultant who was killed in the attack by Mexico city chief

Mexico City (AP) — Authorities say the Mexican city mayor’s private secretary and adviser was killed by a gunman on a motorcycle near the central capital on Tuesday.

Mayor Clara Brugada holds the country’s second-most powerful political position, President Claudia Sheinbaum, an allies to the Morena party.

Brugada said in a statement that her secretary Ximena Guzmán and consultant José Muñoz were killed in the Moderna community. Motives are under investigation.

Sheinbaum lamented the killing and said in a morning press conference that there would be no punishment. Sheinbaum served as city mayor of Mexico before winning the presidency last year.

In 2020, gunmen from Jalisco’s new generation of cartels tried to kill the then-cop chief in a spectacular ambush on Central Avenue. He was injured and three were killed.
