Officials determined that the bridge was safe.
The NTSB has not yet begun interviewing crew members of the 300-foot-long, three-mast crew. NTSB said it is working with the Mexican government to get in the ship and see if it has a record label.
NTSB officials said they will study the status of the engine and hope to talk to the crew about them.

Witnesses said the crew concluded a ceremony at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at South Avenue Harbour at 8:30 p.m. When Cuauhtémoc flew to Iceland on board, it fell into the bridge.

Officials said 277 people were killed and 19 were injured on the ship. Authorities identified one victim as 20-year-old Cadet América Yamilet Sánchez.
“I deeply regret the death of Veracruz Cadet América Yamilet Sánchez. My love, support and unity have brought it to her family,” Rocio Nahle, Governor Rocio Nahle, wrote in Spanish on social media.
According to Mexican authorities, the second victim was identified as Adal Jair Maldonado Marcos.
Sanchez’s family shouted and took pictures of each other Sunday as they mourned their losses. Her aunt questioned why the Mexican Navy did not do more to bring her family to New York to restore her body. Another family member called the videos illogical, adding that it would never happen.
Maritime experts say that sometimes when sailors leave the port, the sailors sometimes stand in the yard of the ship, which is believed to have happened to the crash.
What else will investigators look at?
“Are the anchor ready? It’s one thing. If the engine continues to face the assistant, is there a procedure to shut down the engine? Of most ships, there are most ships,” said Captain James Staples, a maritime expert who is not involved in the crash.
Mexico’s consulate said the ship was a well-intentioned ambassador of the country and the country is providing support to the crew. However, the Consulate turned us to the Mexican Navy for investigation and we have not heard back yet.
DHS said Schumer should “make his facts straightforward”
U.S. Department of Homeland Security has responded to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s concerns about whether or not The Ministry of Government Efficiency Reductionor a factor in the event. “The U.S. Coast Guard is fully supported and exempt from hiring freezes. Additionally, this incident has nothing to do with ship traffic services – when the ship loses propulsion in a high current area, the ship needs to participate in all capabilities to stop, ideally at nearby TUGS to support it,” the post reads. “We encourage minority leader Schumer to raise his facts directly, and then he misleads the American people. ”
During a weekly press conference on Sunday morning, Schumer explained that the Coast Guard had a system called “Vehicle Transport Services” similar to the VTS FAA Air Traffic Control.
“There are signs that this service, called VTS, may not be fully or fully functional given the recruitment freeze. We don’t know the answer to that question. We need the answer. If so, the Brooklyn Bridge accident may be a national pioneer and ask for immediate attention.”
Schumer noted that Admiral Linda Fagan released his duties as commander of the Coast Guard on January 21.
“In addition, the Coast Guard is currently recruiting freeze for the Department of Homeland Security DHS, which may limit the Coast Guard’s ability to fully staff on VTS, VTS, vehicle traffic services, cross-shore systems, providing referenced air traffic control to the ocean, especially in New York ports within local areas such as New York and New York,” he said.
The U.S. Coast Guard issued a statement Sunday saying that the VTS “works completely during the incident, managing commercial traffic and promoting safe navigation under established procedures.
