Police say

According to police, a shoe store owner shot and killed a man in a robbery on the Third Street promenade in Santa Monica on Sunday night.
The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m., and the Santa Monica Police Department announced in a press release. Property manager John Alle said the owner of Sole & Laces, the owner of shoe store owner, was conducting after-hours sales with customers when he attempted to rob.
According to police, a second person who was allegedly involved in a private sale entered the store and sprinkled with pepper. Police said there was a struggle where the store owner shot and killed the suspect.
Police said the suspect was taken to a local hospital and later died of injuries.
The client who arranged private sales was arrested for suspected robbery. Police have not identified any suspects involved.
Police said the incident appeared to be targeted and involved people they knew each other.
“There is no persistent threat to the public,” the Santa Monica Police Department said in a press release.
Police said the undetermined store owner is working with authorities.
The investigation is still underway.
