Google I/O 2025: Gemini, Workspace’s expectations

Updated: May. 19. 2025, 1:36 PM EDT This article has been updated in the new information on the “Android Event” (Android Event” held on Tuesday, May 13.
The latest news from Google-Land is Gemini, Gemini, Gemini. With Google I/O 2025 less than a day, we expect more.
A year after the last big event, Google returned to AI and dived deeper into AI. In fact, so deep that Android is completely sorted into its own independent event. On Tuesday, May 13, Google hosted the “Android Show,” a small I/O-style event focusing on the latest Android 16 development project.
So, Google cleans up the deck of the main announcement on Google I/O tomorrow? All signs point to yes.
Before I/O 2025, Google abandoned the developer preview of Gemini 2.5 Pro, its latest generation AI model. Translation: This year’s keynote isn’t just about flashy hardware or Android updates—it’s about code, algorithms, and the general direction of Google’s AI goals.
Whether you’re a developer, a stubborn Android fan, a casual Gmail user, or just here for a spectacle, this is what Google I/O 2025 expects.

What to expect
Agent AI
Have you heard a lot of words AI recently? We definitely had the latest in Microsoft Build 2025. Proxy AI capabilities are a focus during Microsoft Build Keynote, and OpenAI is launching more and more proxy features through its AI Chatbot Chatgpt. And, as we want Gemini to be the main focus of Google I/O 2025, we also want announcements related to Gemini’s new proxy tools.
AI mode
With Chatgpt from Siphoning sephoning searchers from Google (especially young searchers), Google goes all out, first with an AI overview and recently using AI mode. Last week, Google began quietly testing AI models on its homepage and on the search results page of featured users, as Mashable reported. Of course, Google seems to be preparing for AI mode for prime time, and Google I/O will be the best time to announce this release.
The AI mode uses Gemini Chatbot to provide searcher information instead of the standard blue links obtained through Google searches. And if the AI model is launched more widely, it further proves that the era of Google search has ended and that the era of AI search has officially begun.

Android 16
Google I/O a week before Google withdrew curtains on Android 16. The title here is a brand new evolution of Google’s design language, moving from Material 3 to the expressiveness of a more dynamic and customizable Material 3. (Google, thue to toble, details that self-exudes in now-deleted blog posts.) You can get all the details on Google blogs, but we’ll click on it: Material 3 Expractical and Sexprancive and Clean Design and Corporate Memphis Art, and feature more active animations, colors, colors and circles.

Everything we learned from Google’s “Android Show” event
We also learned that Google converts its Find My Device app to “Find Hub”, which will allow users to track devices of course, but also people, items, and even suitcases. New Bluetooth tracker tags and smart luggage will be released soon and integrate directly with the New Discovery Center.
As for what Android 16 will bring, the beta has already let us peek at it. Features such as Auracast support suggest smoother Bluetooth switching, while visual tweaks, quality of life upgrades, and the introduction of “summary notifications” show that there are a more simplified, user-friendly experiences overall.
The leak indicates that the second quarter was released sometime around June.
Wearos
Wear OS fans, it’s (almost) for you. Wearing OS 5.1 quietly dropped in March, offering some relatively minor improvements such as better step tracking and improved media control. However, it is surprising that Google revealed OS 6 during the Android Show event. We now know that Wear OS 6 will get a big visual update, new Gemini AI capabilities, and a 10% battery life enhancement.
Android Xr
The fourth time is charm – at least, that’s what Google hopes for.
After quietly burying Google Glass, the DIY novelty of the slow Daydream and Cardboard, Google once again sneaked into immersive technology first with Android XR. Given Gemini AI, the new operating system is built from scratch and is designed to power the next wave of AR and VR wearables.
Now, it may be different for Google to work with Samsung on the Moohan Project Project, a pair of XR glasses that use Google OS. Details are very little, and it’s not clear whether Moohan will make a cameo appearance on I/O 2025, but you can bet Android XR will have some time. Expect Google to name it in terms of new partners and picture the XR ecosystem that may have endurance.
Google Workspace changes
Google regularly launches new tools, updates and features for its workspace suite, including Google Docs, Gmail, Sheets, and Slide. In Google I/O 2025 keynote, find a large number of announcements related to the new workspace tool. You don’t have to be a psychologist to know that Gemini and AI will be the driving force behind most of these changes.
Project Astra
What is the Astra project? The project is part of Google DeepMind at the company’s AI Skunkworks Labs. This is the name of Google’s research prototype. Also on the deck is also a mobile version of Google AI-powered research assistant. We’re not sure if we’ll get the latest information on this on Google I/O 2025, but fingers crossed.
Moohan Project
The Moohan project is actually a joint venture between Google and Samsung. This is the code name for Samsung’s first augmented reality glasses, powered by Google Gemini. We know Samsung is developing new display technology for AR glasses and we hope to get more updates on the project as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Google I/O usually doesn’t include many hardware announcements, but if you’re lucky, we’ll get some trailers in the upcoming product launch. We got a good idea of the technology during our Galaxy Unwacky event earlier this year, so Google I/O may give us the next preview.
More AI, AI, AI
Google is now an AI company, and it’s all out. I/o 2025 is shaping less things What More information about Google Smarter It can do everything.
The center of this is Gemini. With Version 2.5 Pro in the hands of developers, Google will delve into new ways to perform performance growth, real-world integration, and Gemini’s resilience between platforms. (As of this writing, the Gemini 2.5 Pro ranks first.)
Google brings AI to everything, so it’s hoped to make announcements on a range of AI-related features: cars, smartwatches, earbuds, and even your toaster. Context-aware assistant, predictive interface and device model will lead the demo. It’s exciting, or exhausting, depending on how many times you’ve heard the term “AI-Fort strategy”.
