Train service ruined for 2 weeks in Key Cologne Hub

A two-and-a-half-week interruption of train service began at Cologne Central Station in western Germany, affecting long-distance and regional routes.

Network operator Deutsche Bahn said part of the closure that began Friday night was the installation of a new electronic signal box.

The Intercity Express Sprinter service on the Bonn-Berlin route has been completely cancelled. The train to Brussels is moving in the city of Clayfield.

It will also affect six regional express lines, six regional railway lines and several suburban railway routes.

However, the services connecting Hamburg, Bremen and Cologne will work properly.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the closure of Cologne is one of the largest transportation disruptions in the city’s history, and its services were scheduled to be suspended on May 19.

Cologne Central Station is one of Europe’s busiest transportation centers, serving approximately 180,000 passengers a day. Cologne itself (a residence of only 1 million people) has the highest commuting rates in the area.
