The vacuum has six RGB infrared cameras on the front, top and back, meaning it can be seen in color and darkness – you don’t have to make all the lighting work properly, unlike a robot vacuum that uses basic optical sensors. It took a few minutes to draw my house. The app is incredible. This is an accurate 3D rendering of my house, not only the floor surface, but also the difference between furniture and objects that are several feet tall.
The app has several buttons that can be toggled. You can change the rendering style to make the map visually cluttered. You can manually control the vacuum using the joystick; you can switch to Airplane Mode to “fly” at the eye level, not at the floor level. If you have errors sent to Matic’s team, you can record videos.
Matic uses what it calls long-term hits or absolute mapping, which involves various sensors and navigation systems to place walls and obstacles relative to most vacuums that navigate through relative mapping. But Matic is very much like a person and has made a psychological map. Just as visitors to your home can enter through the back door and then walk through the kitchen door without being completely confused, Matic will not be confused.
You can even pick up the Matic and place it anywhere in your home and it will know where it is and how to get to the dock. If you are doing this when your husband does it, you can see it flying in the dock while carrying it. Plus, all mapped data and analysis flow locally from your app into a vacuum and is limited to your device, so you won’t see pictures of your butt on Facebook.
Speaking of husband, you can also click on another user in settings to easily add family members to the app and vacuum. When I attend a work meeting, no longer receive text messages, please run the vacuum in the kitchen!

The joystick in the app is nice, but it doesn’t respond as much as the gaming joystick, and when I try to use it I just draw the vacuum into something. Instead, I prefer to scale with my fingers and draw on the map. For example, my husband sprinkled a bunch of camparis on the kitchen floor. I just opened the map, clicked on the cleaning area, and then mop. Maita Mother was straightforward.
