Father’s daughter searches for answers after death at the University of California, Santa Barbara

A Washington state father urged the answers earlier this year to investigate the death of the 18-year-old daughter of the University of California campus.
Liz Hamel, 18, found a coma outside a dormitory on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara on February 14, apparently falling from the breeze. She died a few days later.
But what led to her death remains a mystery.
“In the past few months, UC Santa Barbara, the UC Santa Barbara PD briefed us and they were kind to us. They were always … understanding. But of course, because this is an ongoing investigation, they can’t give us a lot of details,” Liz, Liz’s father, Alain Hamel, told Fox News.

Hamel, who lives in Seattle, told Fox News that his family reached out to the community this week to help find a man who was with his daughter that night. Within 24 hours, the university police were able to talk to those who were interested.
“I think it’s very successful. … I’m not saying enough about Santa Barbara. It’s too fast. They did help us move the investigation forward,” Hammer said. “I’m not a policeman. I’m outside, but it seems they’re really pushing it forward.”
“A person identified in our dormitory has been found and interviewed,” UC Santa Barbara said in a statement. “The investigation is still ongoing and we cannot discuss any other details at this time. UCPD is announcing the family notice and working closely with the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office.

“UCPD is committed to continuing the comprehensive investigation to seek answers related to this tragic incident and has worked closely with the District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office since the early days of the investigation.”
Hamar said he did not know the man he was with his daughter, nor did his daughter’s friends know. He is not the suspect of her death.
As far as he knows, Hamar said they met at a noodle bar that night, “They hit it down and it was Valentine’s Day. So, I think it might have something to do with it. Yes, yes, they only took pictures from a certain angle. Then, they were after 10:06 (pm) and my knowledge, at 10:27, they fell after 10:06.

“She’s great,” Hamar said of his daughter Leeds. “She is our world. She is our only child. She is everything to us. She is a real joy. And, you’re lucky to be with her for 18 years. We wish we had more time.” (Alain Hamel)
