Apple releases iOS 18.4 In March, this update brought some New emoji All iPhones. But when Apple is released iOS 18.2 In December, it introduced a new feature in your mail app that divides incoming emails into your different categories called categories.
“The mail app automatically classifies emails into categories to help you find and manage messages faster,” Apple wrote online. However, if you don’t like how categories work in emails and don’t have to worry about it, you can restore the app to the way it was before the update.

Here’s what you need to know about the mail category and how to turn off the feature, so your app looks like it was before the update.
What is a mail category?
The categories in the mail are similar to those you find in Gmail. The app filters your emails into one of four categories: main, transaction, update, and promotion.
Emails with receipts and order and delivery information fill in transaction categories, news, social and other subscription emails will be used for updates. You might imagine that emails with special offers and deals will be used for promotions.
The main categories are difficult to determine. Apple wrote in the app, mainly “the most important news.” I’ve used a redesigned app since Beta started, and during that time my main categories were filled with emails for my wife, customer service and even refund information. This is a comprehensive category.
Can I change the category of my email?
You can get most messages, but not all. This is the method.
1. Click on the email.
2. Click the Deal, Update or Promotion tab at the top of the message, instead of the main message, and then click Message.
3. Click on three dots (…) in the upper right corner.
4. Tap Classification.
You can then manually classify messages from a given sender into another category. Unfortunately, all messages in the sender will go to the new category, which can be annoying.
Once, I ordered tickets to the show at a local theater and filtered the email to the promotion. I moved the emails for these tickets to the subject, but now all emails for the theater, including transactions and sales, go to my main category. It is annoying to be able to change the category.
It is important to note that you can reassign emails from promotions to deals and then back to promotions without any problem. The only emails that cannot be reclassified are the main ones.
How to close categories in mail?
If you don’t like mail categories, you can delete them so the mail looks like it was before the update. This is the method.
1. Click on the email.
2. Click on three dots (…) in the upper right corner of the application.
3. Tap List View.
Now when your email arrives in your inbox, your email will be populated from top to bottom in the message.
There is also an email category called All emails This seems to blend the new category with the list view, but you may have missed it – like me. turn up All emailsenable categories and slide the mail for the mail, and then slide the category bar near the top of the message on the left to reveal All emails. Click here and you will still see the Categories tab at the top of the message, but when it lands in the inbox, all your messages will be displayed in the list view.
