No injuries were reported after a possible discharge from a school in Marina del Rey.
A student allegedly released a “possible gun” in the classroom of Marina del Rey’s Westside Global Warenes magnet on Wednesday morning, school district officials confirmed.
No injuries were reported. Campus is temporarily locked.
Law enforcement sources reported that the student was a 13-year-old boy whose gun accidentally drove out of his backpack between 8:30 a.m.
The unified information for parents in Los Angeles does not specify the student’s age or gender or the exact time of the event:
“Today, a student allegedly released a possible gun inside the classroom and has since fled the campus,” a message sent at 10:40 a.m. said: “No student or staff were injured. The campus has been swept by law enforcement and locked down.”
Officials said in the message that they “take action immediately, including notifying the Los Angeles School Police Department and the West Western for further investigation.”
Parents of the “affected students” have been notified based on regional information.
In this case, Los Angeles School Police will provide “campus support and additional patrols for the rest of the week,” the sources said.
Consulting services will also be provided.
The school also scheduled a parent meeting on Zoom at 4 p.m. this afternoon.
The earlier news was sent at 9:11 a.m., reminding parents: “There is a district policy on campus that causes … to continue to lock down. Students and staff are safe. School police and districts are on campus. There is no threat to any student at this time.”
