Former Disney employee sentenced to three years in prison for hacker menu deleting allergic information, increasing blasphemy

A judge sentenced former Disney World employee to three years in prison after invading the park’s menu system to remove peanut allergies information, add profanity and change fonts.
Michael Scheuer, 40, of Winter Garden, Florida, will serve in federal prison for three years and must confiscate his computer and pay $687,776.50 to the victims, according to FOX 35.
Scheuer pleaded guilty to the charge in January.
FOX 35 reports that he worked as menu production manager at Disney and is responsible for the creation and distribution of all restaurant menus, including digital menus. He was fired on June 13, 2024.

According to the channel, Shure’s dismissal was “controversial and…not considered friendly”, and the federal complaint said Shure “made several changes on the menu that threatened public health and safety.”
The complaint says Shure added profane and changed the pricing of certain items on the menu. It also said he sent multiple login requests, which prevented more than a dozen employees from accessing their accounts and systems.
None of his changes are used for the printed or digital version of the menu, but the complaint says the loss is more than $150,000.

The FBI attacked Scheuer’s house on September 23 and occupied at least four computers.
Scheuer initially denied any involvement or misconduct in the FBI’s questioning, accusing Disney of “trying to frame him because they feared him and the conditions for his dismissal.”
David Haas, an attorney representing Scheuer, said his client’s disability affected his work at Disney.
“He had a medical incident that led to his suspension,” Haas said. “Disney then failed to respond to his inquiries about why he was suspended, and his suspension was inexplicably changed to termination.”

“Disney refused to respond to his dismissal without providing him with accommodation,” Haas continued. “He then filed an EEOC complaint. I look forward to a story that strongly demonstrates my story.”
Scheuer was initially charged with one count of intentionally transferring a program, information, code or command to a protected computer and intentionally causing damage without authorizing more than $5,000.
